Moving on

Originally I created this blog because I was creating AmateurAndroid.com using Google Sites and Google Apps. I thought that because blogger was a Google Property that it would have some integration advantages over other blog engine alternatives. Blogger doesn't have any integration extras, and because Wordpress is just a better alternative for too many reasons to mention here... I'm killing off amateurandroid.blogger.com. Watch for new posts at http://amateurandroid.wordpress.com

Free Services provide what you paid for

I've been trying out Google Apps (and Google Sites) to build a more full featured site for the AmateurAndroid. I haven't been able to find a decent Google Gadget that will allow me to automatically include posts from this blog in the Site. Booo.

I created an AmateurAndroid twitter account only to find a similar lack in integration. I just want simple, 'display feed content here' functionality. Perhaps with a link to the appropriate post or feed so that viewers can join the conversation.

So, I'm going to try to write a new Gadget to drop this blog into www.AmateurAndroid.com.

Wish me luck.

Getting started

Welcome to Amateur Android. I'm Kevin, a Vancouver based software developer. In my spare time I develop applications for the Google G1 phone or the Google Phone and any other devices that run the Android operating system.

In the coming weeks I'll post some of the things I've learned while developing applications. Hopefully others will find it useful or at least interesting. Until then, I'm trying to set up as much of this site using free Google based web tools, including Google Sites, Blogger, Gmail and Google Calendar. So stay tuned for real Android posts coming soon.
